AAE : Hydrogen: THE solution for decarbonizing aviation

Lecture presented by Michel Desaulty, former chief engineer for research and technology, Safran Aircraft engines, AAE member.

Air transport accounts for around 2.6% of CO2 emissions, and despite all the efforts we've made to reduce fossil fuels, the challenge of achieving zero emissions is all the more ambitious given the anticipated growth in traffic.

Hydrogen is one way of reducing carbon footprints, but it's not the only one. Many technological building blocks are not yet ready, and are the subject of intensive maturation plans on the part of aircraft and engine manufacturers. We also need to integrate a change in the airport ecosystem.

The conference will look at the consequences and opportunities of introducing hydrogen into aircraft engines.
