ArianeWorks: a European response to Space X?

The Groupe Professionnel Aéronautique et Espace Paris des Arts & Métiers invites you to attend their next event (conference only or dinner conference):

ArianeWorks: a European response to Space X?

In February 2019, CNES and ArianeGroup launched an unprecedented partnership in the form of an innovation platform called "ArianeWorks".e "ArianeWorks" with the primary mission of accelerating the preparation of future generations of European launchers.

2 ½ years later, while Ariane 6 development is progressing with an inaugural flight scheduled for 2022, the ArianeWorks team is contributing to the development of "Themis", a demonstrator for the Ariane 6 launcher. Themis", a low-cost, modular, reusable first-stage demonstrator powered by the "Prometheus" liquid oxygen-methane engine.

In the age of NewSpace, and against a backdrop of fierce competition for access to orbit, ArianeWorks' strength lies in its focus on agility through experimentation. Particularly effective in the prototyping stages, this philosophy enables us to learn more quickly from iterative test-bed implementations, even if they are incomplete or unfinished. The advantage, repeatedly highlighted by Space X, is not to get it right the first time, but to encourage rapid back-and-forth between design offices and test teams, and to make the most of failures, since they enable weaknesses to be detected and corrected.

Jérôme VILA, founder and leader of ArianeWorks, will present the convincing achievements of the 2-year ArianeWorks initiative. He will decipher the turbulent phase the launcher sector is currently going through, and shed light on the outlook for the 2020 decade.
