Hypersonic gliders

The return of the assertive use of force by a power to achieve its strategic objectives has become a fact of life.

High-intensity confrontations at sea or on land will require capabilities with strong effects on the adversary. High suddenness" is now the corollary of high intensity.

Having a fast, powerful arm at least as long as your opponent's is essential, whether to create zones of uncertainty (A2/AD) or to strike unstoppably and forcefully despite your opponent's distance and defense systems.

The development of hypersonic weapons (Mach > 5 and maneuverable), mainly conventional, is now a reality.

With the launch of the V-MAX demonstrators, entrusted to ArianeGroup, the French Ministry of the Armed Forces has set the ball rolling, enabling France to achieve a first level of exploration and flight demonstration in the field of hypersonic gliders,

while breaking new ground in the management of a complex demonstrator program on the frontiers of Space. With V-MAX, France has given itself the means to join the "club" of major powers developing hypersonic gliders (USA, Russia, China...).

This conference will address the global "race" for hypersonic weapons, their uses and performance, and the new links between nuclear deterrence, space and conventional forces that hypersonic gliders generate.
