Le musée de l'Air et de l'Espace, histoire et enjeux d'un musée centenaire, by Jean-Pierre Cornand (S 1977) and Marie-Laure Griffaton

Conference in partnership with the Aéronautique & Espace group of Arts & Métiers Paris

The Alumni Association, in partnership with the Aeronautics & Space group of Arts & Métiers Paris, is pleased to invite you to its next conference:

The Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace, history and challenges of a century-old museum

Founded in 1919, and located on the Paris-Lyon-Bourget airport site since 1975, the museum is managed as a public administrative establishment under the supervision of the French Ministry of the Armed Forces. It preserves and showcases a collection unique in the world, covering the 3 fields of flight: aerostation, aviation and space. Its presentation retraces the history of aviation, highlighting not only its technical history, but also its artistic and symbolic aspects.

The conference will address the major challenges of museum management:

How do you preserve and showcase a collection of 400 aircraft, over 40,000 objects and a rich archive and photographic collection? How can we enhance the value of an exceptional historic site and benefit from the presence of a working airport?

How can we attract a wide range of visitors to our site, and raise awareness of aerospace history and technology? How can we optimize cooperation with aeronautical associations? How can the museum be developed, and what themes should be addressed to meet the current and future challenges of the aerospace world?

Practical information

As usual, the conference will be followed by a cocktail reception to extend the discussions over a friendly drink, and then, for those who wish, a dinner in the presence of the speakers.
