Tribute to Jean Lamy
We are sad to announce the death of Jean LAMY (SUPAERO 1971) on July 6, 2025.
Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends.
Jean was an outstanding comrade and loyal friend; his incisive intelligence, his humanity, his generosity, his openness to others, his humility and the pertinence of his advice left an indelible mark on all those who had the good fortune to meet him, whether friends, fellow students, colleagues or those who benefited from his generosity.
He graduated from our school in 1971, and from the moment he joined SUPAERO, he demonstrated his sense of the common good and his leadership skills, chairing the Student Office for 2 years.
Throughout his rich career, he embodied the spirit of innovation, rigor and strategic vision.
So, after completing his engineering training, he continued his studies abroad, obtaining a Master of Science in Engineering Economic Systems from Stanford University. Stanford University (1971-1972), then an MBA fromIowa State University - Ivy College of Business (1975-1977), thus affirming his dual technical and managerial skills.
He spent more than thirty years in a number of high-profile positions, notably in the aeronautical equipment and energy sectors.
His career was marked by senior management positions at FCI-Amphenol Communications Solutions, accompanying the group's growth and transformation for 15 years. At the same time, he was a member of the AREVA group's Management Board, while also managing FCI when it joined the group, actively contributing to its global industrial strategy.
Previously, from 1987 to 2001, he had presided over several major industrial subsidiaries such as Labinal Inc, Globe Motors Inc and Cinch Connectors Inc, strengthening their presence in international markets and consolidating their position in leading-edge sectors.
A man of vision and a recognized leader, Jean Lamy has left a lasting imprint on all the organizations he has worked with. His career remains a source of inspiration for young engineers and industrial leaders alike.
He was also an exemplary and committed philanthropist.
A recipient of scholarships during his studies that enabled him to realize his academic and professional dreams, Jean was a loyal and invaluable supporter of the École and its Foundation. In particular, he was involved in the construction of the Foundation's first strategic plan for 2019.
Convinced of the importance of passing on knowledge, he was keen to support passionate students so that they could carry out ambitious projects, essential to their future as engineers. He saw them as actors in scientific progress.
Among the initiatives he has actively supported through the Foundation :
- Mobility grants to the United States,
- The creation of "Jeunes Pousses Entrepreneuriat" scholarships, designed to encourage students wishing to set up their own business.
He was one of the key players in the working group set up in 2024 by the Alumni Association in partnership with the École, the ISAE-SUPAERO Foundation and AEROSPACE Angels, with the aim of dedefine ways of supporting the School's Innovation/Entrepreneurship dynamic and fostering closer ties between Alumni and start-ups from the School.
Stricken by illness, he will sadly miss the launch, scheduled for the end of 2025, of the Association's Innovation/Entrepreneurship Center, which he was instrumental in creating.
